The R-core transformers were resin-sealed to reduce flux leakage and vibration, but like SH, I'm not sure that that resulted in any audible difference to the SCD-777ES. So, this is one machine you want to use unbalanced! (And did away with one of the key differences with the cheaper SCD-777ES.) Prototype machines were actually heavier, if you can believe that!įor reasons that no one outside Tokyo could understand, the SCD-1 was actually a true balanced design inside, but the designers chose to convert to single-ended, before then creating a fake balanced output with op-amps. A minor correction: the SCD-1 was introduced in Japan in May 1999, and September 1999 in the US and Europe.
